Unity

Series: A Better Life

Geoffrey TurnerJuly 5, 2026Weekend Services

Passage: Ephesians 2:11-22

In the fourth week of the "Better Life" series, Geoffrey Turner explores the profound truth that "because of Jesus, we belong to God and we belong to one another". Rooted in Ephesians 2:11-22, the message emphasizes that while the world creates walls of exclusion based on politics, race, and income, Jesus has already "broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility," symbolized by the ancient "Soreg" temple wall that once excluded outsiders under threat of death. Geoffrey argues that true peace is not merely an emotion but the person of Jesus himself, and that horizontal peace with others must flow from our vertical reconciliation with God. Consequently, believers are no longer "spiritual houseguests" but "members of the household of God," called to stop rebuilding the walls Jesus tore down and to prioritize pursuing relationships over winning arguments. Ultimately, the church’s role is not to create unity but to reveal the unity Christ has already established through the cross.

Main Text: Ephesians 2:11-22

Because of Jesus, we  to God and we  to one another.

for  changes the way we live our lives. (Romans 5:8-11)

Peace is a , and that  is Jesus.

peace with one another flows from the  peace of reconciliation.

Unity isn’t the , it is the  that Christ created for His people through the cross.

The church is  to  the unity Christ created.

Remember where

The less we remember the  we have been given, the less -filled we are with others.

 Jesus tore down.

 instead of winning arguments.

into  instead of away from it.

 for . (John 17:11)
